I think RFK Jr is wrong to allege "fear-mongering" over climate change. But he's right when he says that climate change will be overcome market forces -- clean energy is cheaper than fossil fuels, especially when the real costs of fossil fuel combustion, like the destruction of the environment, are included.
That's kind of the whole deal with market forces -- you profit precisely by making sure the real costs are born elsewhere. Clean energy, especially if it is profitable, has plenty of "externalized" costs as well -- what happens to the environment and the people at the sites where lithium for batteries is mined, for example?
I point this out not to argue against electric vehicles or other technology, but to point out that there are always trade offs involved, that the costs are always real, and we should be honest about what those costs are and who is paying them.
Are the trade-offs being made to decarbonize better than the status quo? Yes, I believe so. Is that the same thing as saying there are no trade offs, no injustice, and no harm done? No, not at all.
He's on record opposing fracking and oil and gas pipelines, so he's a lot further on toward government intervention and the Green New Deal than most Democrats who purport to be concerned about climate change.
