It's a bit wet out there

So we did have a little water problem in the basement yesterday, thanks to a clogged downspout extender... I love coming in the front door at the end of the day and first thing I hear is the shrieking water alarms... thankfully it was confined to the laundry/utility room and could be handled by the shop vac and the dehumidifier. @joanne I've always been fascinated by Australia and hope to visit someday, but with the magnitude of rain and storms you get there, I don't know that I could ever live there... do the houses even have basements??

Most don't have cellars or basements, and quite a few are built on 'stilts' in the northern areas (old style houses, for ventilation and to avoid flooding).

This current weather event has surprised everyone, totally out of the blue.

Just learnt that parts of Sydney (parts of South-western Sydney) are being evacuated...

joanne, sorry for the hardships in "Oz."

PeggyC, thank you VERY much for "Department of the Bleeding Obvious" :imagine appropriate emoticon here:

From here in the upper Midwest, a quiet moan for 34 degrees (joanne, Google says that's 1.11111 celsius)(and the spell check here doesn't recognize "celsius") and chance of snow showers till noon.  It's bleeding 4/22, and I want to wear sandals.
