Will Trump go after Nike?

Colin Kaepernick has been named the face of Nike's "Just Do It" campaign.

"Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything. "

I would bet good money he will. The over under is how soon or how many tweets it will take.

Apparently people are posting videos of setting their Nike's on fire.

"Destroy something you already bought and paid for" seems to be a classic right-wing response in these situations.

It was a bold move by Nike. I heard the age statistics of Nike customers a little while ago on CNBC and something like 45% of their customers are under 35 - the age group most likely to agree with Kaepernick. Nike stock is only down 2 points, or 2.5%, which isn't a lot on news like that.

"Today, failing Nike joined the failing NYT blah blah blah... "

It's a brilliant move by Nike. Everyone is talking, tweeting, facebooking, etc about it.

Millions and millions of dollars in free advertising and publicity.

Naw, Phil Knight is an actual billionaire.

Do you have any other examples of classic right-wing responses along these lines?

"Conservatives are publicly destroying their Keurig coffee makers in response to the company’s decision to pull its advertisements from Sean Hannity’s television and radio programs."

https://www.nj.com/union/index.ssf/2017/10/why_one_local_american_legion_post_burned_nfl_jers.html

On a Saturday in early October, about 80 NFL jerseys went up in flames behind a small, brick building on a quiet street in Rahway.

Outside the local American Legion post, members had gathered to send the message that NFL players have been wrong to kneel during the pre-game national anthem in protest of racial discrimination and police brutality.

"While our men and woman were over there fighting (at war), they ... were waving a flag. They're fighting for the flag," the post's commander, Randy Wahl, said Wednesday. "And to me, serving our country, the flag is sacred to me."

One video shows season ticket holder Brendan Finn, who has been attending New York Giants games since the early 80’s, burning his tickets.

“I can’t go anymore,” says Finn before apologizing to “all the respectful NFL players who still respect the flag and our country.”

not exactly the same thing, but here's an example of right wingers protesting Starbucks by spending money at Starbucks:

I guess that we should at least congratulate the geniuses who are burning their Nikes for having enough smarts to take them off before lighting them on fire.

 was that enough examples?

Actually there is tweet of a guy burning his Nikes while still wearing them

Just heard on CNBC that two-third's of Nike's customers are under 35.

 oh dear.

I cried because I had no shoes, until I met a man so stupid he set fire to his.

I certainly hope he goes BEFORE Nike.

Yeah, that one made snopes already

The boycott will likely strengthen the Nike brand in the long run.  Having stupid people disassociate themselves from the brand has got to be a positive for image.

Tucker is a moron.

I hope Trump goes after Nike, they will hammer him.

- it will damage their brand with hard-core Trump voters, who, on average, are older whiter angry people (a.k.a. the least desirable audience segment from a branding / advertising perspective)

- it will improve their brand, on average, with people under 35 (a.k.a. the most desirable audience segment)

Overall I think it is a pretty brilliant move by Nike.

Trump is going light on Nike because, in his words: "Nike is a tenant of mine. They pay a lot of rent."

So much for Trump placing his assets in a trust.

Soldiers who took  the oath to defend the Constitution are actually fighting for, among other things, the right to kneel during the national anthem.

So much for Trump placing his assets in a trust.

Or pretending that his presidency is about anything other than graft.

"Last fall Trump invoked Tillman's death to criticize Kaepernick for kneeling.

Soon after, Tillman's widow, Marie, asked people not to use her husband's service to silence others.

"The very action of self expression and the freedom to speak from one’s heart — no matter those views — is what Pat and so many other Americans have given their lives for,” she said in a statement."

 Nailed it.
