We can do this.
I admire your optimism (with regards to the existence of meaningful elections in the future).

I almost wish his term were starting this week. The suspense is aggravating. Waking up to the news at 2:30 AM made me think I could not bear the news for the next four years but I'm already gearing up with the MSNBC team led by Rachel Maddow. She delivered a great opening speech, encouraging us to stay in the fight. Wrong time to give up. I agree, we can do this.
1,535 days until January 20, 2029
The number has started to go down!
And, then there is this….

I'm spreading cheer on my Facebook page with videos of furry critters and words of encouragement.
1,534 days until January 20, 2029.
Not a lot to say today. I’m still bummed.
1,533 days to go.
It’s still a nightmare but it’s a little shorter now.

What exactly do you think the United States will look like in January of 2029. On the one extreme, Trump will have had a largely successful term and MAGA political power will be assured for 4 more years. On the other extreme, Trump will run the nation into a ditch but during his term, his Project 2025 minions will have made changes that make it a difficult for Democrats to regain political power. This will come through the appointment of like-minded judges and further reductions of Fed oversight of state electoral practices. I think some variant of the second extreme to the be more likely.
It all depends on what happens to the House. Or mostly anyway.
It's still up for grabs, right?

Some other things could have happened.
The House could be flipped blue. The Senate seems much less likely.
Democrats maybe get their **** together and win a few more state legislatures and governorships.
Trump could be dead or otherwise incapacitated. He doesn’t look well.
Anyway, he will be done as president in January 2029. That, in and of itself, is something to cling to right now.
I feel like its hard to nail down how many days he has left. He will never relinquish power. Remember?

he has already tried to not relinquish power. first prez ever to do so.
remember?
terp said:
LOL. You are hysterical.
you're claiming he did not try to do this? that the false elector scheme was not exactly that?
jesus, the guy still hasn't conceded.
He relinquished power. Did he hem and haw? Sure. Anyone who for a moment thought he wasn't going to relinquish power is hysterical. I am not surprised that you think this.

yeah, he relinquished power BECAUSE HIS SCHEME FAILED.
you're giving him a pass because he tried but failed?
please listen to yourself.
and I'm betting that you have no clue about the details of the false elector conspiracy, which was the real crime, not J6.
So Nan is officially in the same category as terp and mr Grumble… this country is pickled in disinformation and propaganda. Only left to see when reality for all checks into this asylum

I want free speech. Evidently that's a bad thing.

you think that having media controlled by oligarchs gives us free speech?
truly laughable.
and news flash - yeah, free speech can absolutely not be a good thing when it causes people to be grossly misinformed about the world they live in.
There are some people on MOL who are grossly misinformed about the world we live in.

1,532 days until the end of his constitutionally-mandated term.
If we get there and he refuses to leave the White House I’ll have to start another thread about that. For now, this is one of my guiding stars in life.

If all charges against him a dropped I think he will be anxious to get out of office. He's ageing, the schedule was never something he adhered to, the scrutiny will annoy him and he's made his point. He doesn't appear to be a man who takes great care of his health so he may be inconvenienced by some issue, perhaps a need for medication. By year two, I think we will be seeing him less and less.

Wishful thinking. Have you ever actually watched and listened to Donald Trump? Did you listen to the Joe Rogen interview? Did you hear his speeches? The guy is thrilled to be president and extremely excited to get to work. I doubt he's going to change laws so he can stay in power though.
I agree he does not look metabolically healthy but as president a person is surrounded by doctors. If he drops dead, the VP will take over and finish the term and they seem to be on the same page. That guy is much younger and in great shape so he could end up running things for quite a while. You might prefer Trump.
A lot of people like Trump, but I don't think people like JD Vance. He is more polished than Trump but has no charisma. However, I think the odds are good that Vance will be POTUS before this term ends.
In 1,531 days, if Donald Trump is still POTUS, legally he needs to leave and go home. Hopefully to a state prison in NY.
