There’s still time to vote. The polls close in just over an hour, at 8pm
Frank needs your vote!

Has everyone bullet-voted for Frank McGehee?
Got that great email from Sheena. I had almost forgotten so it was not only a reminder but hopefully the statistics of the typical low turnout will move people to participate.
Bullet voted.
Frank won SOMA, but got blitzed by the party line in Newark, Irvington and Hillside.
Out of curiosity did he have much campaign presence in those other cities?
When I went to drop my ballot in the Dropbox in South Orange, there were about 10 people in McGehee shirts (as well as the candidate himself) who were encouraging voters to go to the polls. So the strategy was presumably to get out the vote on his home turf.
I don’t know if he had any kind of presence like that outside of SOMA. But he would have to in order to have a chance against the machine (as Dietrich pointed out).
Assemblywoman Tucker just turned 80. Obviously she’s not retiring now but I think Mr McGehee should plan to stay in the game for a few more years and increase his name recognition.

Agree that there needs to be a wider audience beyond Maplewood.
We mailed in the ballots a long time ago and likely selected one of the others in addition to McGehee. I wish that there would be more information and opinions available earlier than the week before the election.

I believe he'd still be up against the party as I don't think they'd have Maplewood residents in both Assembly spots, assuming Garnet Hall continues to serve. Rumor was that the powers that be decided that it was Maplewood's turn for the spot after South Orange had it for so many years with Mila Jasey, with Tucker of Newark in the other spot. If Tucker retires, I don't know if Newark holds on to that slot by virtue of the city's size, or if it would rotate through Irvington and Hillside.
Assemblywoman Tucker stopped by Town Hall to say hi to the poll workers (I was one of them). She was pleasant and fully engaged. She doesn't look 80 for what it's worth. I hope I didn't look 71. And I plan to vote in 2024 for someone who will be 82 or so.
NJ has historically had a pretty poor record of electing women to the state legislature. I'm happy that our district is likely to send two women to Trenton in November. Frank will have other opportunities.

we will not successfully get a flood of young people, especially women, into higher office if we don't get more younger women into local and state offices. For how many years have younger folks been kept off the rungs of the ladder by an 80 year old? It's a Democratic district. We know the Democrat will win. Get younger women into office now so that they can gain experience.
