I don't know how you would so--- can you contact samsung to check if it's even legit? or google, bc android a google prod.
Judging from my Google search, it's legit, but a lot of people are unhappy with the upgrade. But contacting Samsung couldn't hurt, if for no other reason than to ask how to stop the popup! I guess I could also drop by a Verizon store.
So, I contacted Samsung. Here's their response:
Thank you for taking the time to contact us at Samsung Technical Support. We always appreciate hearing from our customers.
With reference to your ticket number 2135634803, I understand that you want to disable the popup, regarding the latest firmware update availability. Ill help you with the possible information.
Let me inform you that there is no option to disable the firmware update popup permanently but you can postpone the update for a certain time. You can deny the update for approximately for three to four times and later the update will be installed automatically on the device. I would like to inform you that this is a developer option and this cannot be disabled.
Hope the above information helps.
It is indeed. And to rub salt in the wound, I received a followup email today saying they hoped they answered my question to my satisfaction.
Why wouldn't you want a firmware update? Those are typically sent to help improve your connectivity with telecom providers.
Numerous negative comments online about this upgrade. Many about reduced battery life. Current version working very well for me, and excellent battery life. I'd prefer to wait for later version, once they've worked out glitches.

I referenced this popup in another thread. I do NOT want to install this upgrade, but the notification continues to pop up on the home screen of my Galaxy S5 phone every minute or so. I've tried various tips suggested via the Internet, but nothing helps. Is there any way to stop it? (Note: I'm not a techie.)
