Has anyone Volunteered for EMTs in our area?

A friend who will be applying for medical school in two years is interested in volunteering with the EMT's in one of our towns.

Wondering if anyone has done this and what kind of experience they had?

Thanks

I have a friend whose high school son volunteers with Milburn EMT and has had a great experience. He first attended weekly training there before being allowed on calls. I have also seen training offered for the EMT in Maplewood (and/or South Orange?) but I think that might have also been for high school students. Best to call the local EMTs and ask about the procedure for joining.

The Millburn squad has a website with a listing of EMT classes:

It also has a page with two short essays by volunteers:

The South Orange Rescue Squad is always looking for new EMTs.

We have listings of all upcoming classes nearby and many of them accept the EMT Training Fund-- meaning that the State of NJ will pay for the training of those who commit to being a part of our squad once the class is complete. What about people who are already EMTs (in NYC)?

Yes we definitely welcome new members who are already EMTs. If someone is certified in NY they would need to apply for reciprocity for certification in NJ and in some cases may have to take an approved NJ Refresher Course:

Thank you! I'll pass this info on.
