Happy birthday, terp

We may not agree politically, but you're a smart, thoughtful guy. Have a great day.

Thanks! Big birthday for me!

You, too? I was talking about a different terp. Interesting.

Happy Birthday to both Terps!

Happy B'day, EVERYONE!!!

Thanks All for the good wishes...especially Particle Man for starting this. One thing I'm wondering. How did you know it was my birthday?

TylerDurden = Terp? Confused!

There was a brouhaha a few years back(7 or 8?) when I had a political discussion with someone that runs this site. So, the name terp is no longer available LOL People still refer to me by that name though.

I know all!

Non-conformist views are never tolerated for long on MOL. But I know what Jamie and Dave can give you for your birthday.

Can owners give you your old name back?

What was conversation on? Intrigued.

That would be awesome.

I do think that I've been able to express my views here on MOL. Obviously, not without quite a bit of spirited opposition. The 2 gentlemen that run this site clearly don't agree with much that I have to say politically, but still I'm here. I have no problems with them.

The owners are gods. So they are omnipitenat.

TD, what are the top 5 views you have that you think are controversial

Happy Birthday Hubbie

Happy Birthday to both terps! May you have a fabulous day and an even better year

Bubba Terp,

Happy Birthday to you, if it is in fact your birthday.

I'm controversial here because of my philosophy. I've been called an Ideologue by a few here, and I think quite derisively. I think that is because all the decisions I make come from a core set of principles. The starting point for all of my analysis are these principles. Thus, I think this gives the impression that my thinking is inflexible. Especially when I disgree with most on this board.

The principles I mention are essentially the Non-Aggression principle. Basically, I'm against any act where force is initiated against another individual. This gets me into trouble with people on the left, right, and center of what we call our "political spectrum".

The left will tend to agree with me on foreign policy, especially if a Republican is in the WH. Where I get into trouble is that I disagree with:

  • The Welfare State
  • Most Regulations
  • The Federal Reserve System
  • How money is taken from the citizenry and returned to the states only if the states comply with the wishes of the Federal Government
  • The IRS
  • Most government agencies (CIA, Energy, Education, etc.)

The right will agree with me on economic freedom for the most part. Though, I certainly would change things more than anyone in today'sRepublican Party. Where the right will really take issue with me on Social Freedoms. As long as an individuals actions are not harming anyone else, the government should not have any control over what actions that individual chooses. Also, on Foreign Policy I'm always puzzled that Republicans believe the Government is not competent enough to implement Domestic Policy, but are magically going to do a bang up job building nations abroad.

I agree with almost nobody. I do believe that there should be some government. That government should be as small as possible, and as local as possible. That government should exist only to maximize the natural(not positive) rights of the individual. I believe that is the best model under which people can pursue happiness.

In this model, people are free to associate any way they'd like. Communes, Co-Ops, etc would all be legal, but voluntary.

All of this is very controversial on this board. Let's face it, these views are controversial almost everywhere.

It may be interesting to note that at one time I was a progressive. But this was prior to me joining this community.

The username Terp is not banned. you may have to request a new password. I have no record of when that username was banned last.

Happy birthday to both subjects of this thread and to anyone else celebrating today.

Huzzah! Terp's back! Happy belated birthday, old bean!

The Terp was dead! Love live The Terp!

I know that it is only Wednesday but if it were Thursday we could make it Throwback Thursday.

Wayback Wednesday

Or if it were it two days:

Flashback Friday

According to Max Weisenfeld today is Heavy Rain Wednesday.

I'm a fan of Taco Tuesday, myself, as it means Mackerel Monday is finally over.

Thanks for the warm welcome back! Is Broigus the original name? I can't remember. I remember Zoinks, and even Zombie Zoinks. But I am having trouble remembering the order.

For a while I posted under my real name until my wife made me stop. Broigus was the original alias. I am pretty sure that is what was being used at the time of the infamous All Politics get together at O'Reilly's (I think it was).
