Driving, Travel & Train After the Blizzard

I don't think we have a thread on this yet.  What's it like driving in the Maplewood South Orange area on Sunday morning?  How's the Turnpike?  How would driving to Jersey City work out for a late downtown lunch today?

My ten year old wants to hit Grid Iron Waffle Shop for his birthday breakfast.  We called and they are open.  It's about a mile from us - should we walk?

(Weighing the odds of finding a parking place vs the odds of having non-shoveled sidewalks most of the way...)

Just drove to SO from Maplewood. Main roads (SO Ave/Valley)  well cleared and remaining snow is melting fast.  Side roads not great, but driving slowly should have no issue.  Reminder to clear the top of your car of snow as it will become a projectile tomorrow morning with the melting and refreezing tonight.

Has anyone been on the S curves yet? Need to get to Rt. 10 from SO

Just did a loop around the neighborhood.  Sides roads aren't bad, except where people have thrown their shoveled snow into the street.  And our street was only plowed with a one-car width so parking on it will be a nightmare for a while.  Which is tough since it is one of the streets around Clinton Elementary.  The corners are tough - the piles of snow are huge and you cannot see around them.  It will be hard for all the kids walking to school tomorrow.

From The South Orange Village Center Facebook page..

Roads in the Village Center are in pretty great shape considering. And
there's plenty of parking! Thank you DPW and SOPA for a job well done.
Update on what's open coming to Village Vibe subscribers shortly.

The large SOPAC/NJT lots off Church Street don't seem to have been plowed. Not sure if the plan is to do it overnight for Monday commuters but if they don't will be a big mess in the morning....

What about parking for the train station tomorrow? I usually part on Dunnell and this is my first year commuting by train. Will I be able to park on Dunnell tomorrow? Do they clear the computer parking spots?

We got an awful lot of snow by the time this storm was over and the cleared snow has to be placed somewhere. The plows tend to deposit the cleared snow in the part of the roadway generally used for parking.  Thus, on street parking may be difficult for a while, especially on relatively narrow roadways such as parts of Dunnell.   The section of Dunnell directly adjacent to the train station may be OK but some of the spaces will likely have piles of snow making parking in the snow covered spots difficult.  One thing I will never understand is the tendency to deposit large piles of snow in the handicapped spaces in the day lot on Dunnell.
