Any idea why the old gas station site at Millburn Ave.and Vauxhall is still empty?

I would imagine all court proceedings from the accident and fire have completed by now.

I still miss that location for its convenience!

If they don't plan on reopening it may end up vacant for years. Gas stations often do sit for a long time before someone finally develops them due to the environmental concerns.

If they are going to reopen then I don't know why the delay. However I believe someone told me it was the second fire there (the first wasn't as bad) so the insurance company may be dragging out the investigation and/or attempting to deny the claim.

Anyone from Long Island? That property is the perfect place for a Dairy Barn. For the non-Long Islanders, it's a drivethrough convenience store.

It's a historic Revolutionary War site. There is a marker on the nearby bridge talking about George Washington's march down Vauxhall Road (I think--can't remember). Anyway, maybe they should just turn it into a small attractive park/memorial. It might attract some more visitors to the mall and Trader Joes/Petco???

Not going to happen, but that would be nice since the whole area, including what's around it could use some beautifying.

IIRC it is part of where the Battle of Springfield was fought. I know that it isn't in Springfield, but back then Springfield was much larger than it is today

Me! The Dairy Barn on Willis Avenue in Albertson was the place to go for beer in high school, no ID ever required....oh how times have changed hehehe.

In West Virginia, they have drive-in liquor stores. That would be a better use than a Dairy Barn --- and when N.J. legalizes pot, why the opportunities are endless.

True, but then almost the entire valley is part of the battle ground, and the preceding battle of Connecticut Farms. It was a running fight along what is now Galloping Hill Road, Morris Ave, and Vauxhall Road, with some back and forth around the Rahway River bridges. the British were trying to capture the Short Hills Mall Hobart Gap in order to get at Washington's main army in Morristown.
