Ettlinger, who joined the Army after he graduated from high school in Newark, volunteered his services to an American in Europe who needed help decoding German documents. The film explores how art stolen by the Nazis from state museums and private collections was stored in salt mines throughout Germany and Austria, was recovered by the monuments men and returned to the rightful owners.
